Hiking Trail Update for southern Banff National Park

As of July 14, 2013, many trails within the southern half of Banff National Park have reopened after June flooding. Although many backcountry bridges have been compromised, stream levels are now low enough for careful fording. Parks Canada has reopened the following hiking areas:

  • Glacier Lake
  • Mosquito Creek
  • Norman Lakes
  • Paradise Valley
  • Shadow Lake (via Gibbon Pass only)
  • Skoki Valley
  • Spray River (via Spray East Connector trail only)
  • Taylor Lake
  • Twin Lakes
  • Merlin Meadows
  • Hidden Lake
  • Baker Lake

The Parks Canada website currently states that the Redearth Creek Trail is closed, but the trail was passable on July 11. Pictured below is the new bridge over Redearth Creek along the trail to Shadow Lake.
