Waterton Lakes National Park hiking after 2013 flood

Parks Canada has announced that damage to the Akamina Parkway in Waterton Lakes National Park resulting from spring flooding is major and the road will be closed for the rest of the 2013 summer. In order to relieve some of the traffic that is pressuring the Red Rock Parkway and limited parking at Red Rock Canyon, Parks Canada has contracted the shuttle bus from Tamarack Outdoor Outfitters. The free shuttle is currently transporting visitors to and from the popular canyon destination on a regular daily schedule from downtown Waterton and Crandell Mountain Campground.

Two good hiking destinations can be accessed from Red Rock Canyon—Goat Lake and Twin Lakes. Both of these trips can be partially completed by bike, and the shuttle bus is outfitted with racks for transporting bikes. All Waterton Lakes National Park hikes are detailed in the Canadian Rockies Trail Guide.
