Summerthought is pleased to announce the publication of the 10th edition of the Canadian Rockies Trail Guide. We have been working on the new edition for over two years. As is always the case with a new edition, we have done extensive research by hiking as many trails as possible, but also had a huge amount of input from regular contributors as well as from Parks Canada, Alberta Parks, and BC Parks to ensure that the book remains the most comprehensive and update reference to hiking in the Canadian Rockies. In addition to updates, you will notice three major changes to this edition:
- Full colour. The Canadian Rockies Trail Guide is now full colour. We poured over thousands of photos to find the most appropriate and appealing. Many were taken by our own team, but we also sourced photos from over a dozen local hikers, from professional photographers to those who travel into the remote backcountry.
- Colour topo maps. The format of a printed guidebook does not allow a scale of map suitable for navigation, so instead we worked with Gem Trek Maps to create a map set with an accurate map set with an appealing topographic colour scheme that covers all major Canadian Rockies hiking regions over 34 maps.
- 200 grams lighter than previous editions. This edition of the Canadian Rockies Trail Guide weighs under 500 grams (1 pound). The paper we sourced is as durable and opaque as previous editions, but 30 percent lighter. We also used a linen-embossed cover, which will withstand the rigors of the backcountry
