Wildfire closes Banff, Kootenay trails

Update July 31, 2017—Trails in the Sunshine Meadows and north along the Bow Valley Highline (Simpson Pass, Healy Pass, Egypt Lake, Whistling Pass) reopened Wednesday, July 26. But increased fire activity prompted Parks Canada to close the trails and Sunshine Village again on Monday, July 31st. Jasper Park trails reopen

Some of Jasper Park’s most popular trails reopened this week as the danger from wildfire and rogue bears subsided. Wildfire closes Jasper’s Skyline

A wildfire in Jasper Park’s Maligne Valley has resulted in the closure of the Skyline Trail and the evacuation of several hiking parties from that popular backpacking route, several by helicopter. Wildfire triggers trail closures in Banff Park

The Spreading Creek Fire, ignited by lightning on Alberta forest land east of Saskatchewan River Crossing on July 3, has expanded into Banff National Park and resulted in the closure of several popular trails.
