Berg Lake trail reopens

It’s been four years since the popular Berg Lake trail was closed by a severe flood event. After extensive trail reconstruction and bridge relocations, BC Parks is reopening the trail and its seven campgrounds all the way to Berg Lake and Robson Pass.

The trail officially opens on June 26, 2025, but reservations for campsites begin at 7am on Wednesday, April 2.

The first phase of rebuilding began soon after floods destroyed bridges and large sections of the trail in 2021. Phase 1 concentrated on the trailhead parking lot and the 7 km trail to Kinney Lake Campground, which reopened in 2023.

Phase 2 focussed on trail relocation to Whitehorn Campground at km 11, a section that reopened in 2024.

Major bridge reconstruction, trail relocation and campground upgrades between Whitehorn and Berg Lake-Robson Pass occurred during Phase 3 (work continues into spring, 2025). Total cost of trail restoration is estimated at $5 million.

The latest revised reprint of the Canadian Rockies Trail Guide (due out in May, 2025) features the latest updates for the Berg Lake trail. This includes a Gem Trek map that shows relocated trail and bridges.
