A wildfire that started small in Kootenay National Park’s Numa Creek drainage on Thursday, July 25, 2013, has spread to 50 hectares and forced the closure of the central section of the popular Rockwall Trail.
Parks Canada has closed the Numa Creek drainage until further notice. This includes the Rockwall Trail between Tumbling and Numa Passes as well as the Numa Creek trail and campground. Tumbling Creek access to the Rockwall was already closed due to 2012 bridge wash-outs.
You can still access Floe Lake and Numa Pass via the Floe Lake trail and Helmet Falls and Rockwall Pass from the Helmet Creek trail. However, you’ll have to return the way you came.
